A partial restoration of the damaged tooth using inlays and onlays
In cases when the natural tooth has lost only a comparatively small amount of tissue, laboratory-made inlays or onlays can be used. Inlays are restorations used when there is at least 1 healthy tooth abutment left, while onlays fully cover all the biting surface of the tooth.
The dentist makes an impression of the prepared tooth and in the laboratory the onlays or inlays are made, then they are fixed into the tooth by means of cement.
Inlays and onlays can be made of composite, porcelain and different metal alloys, for example, gold.
