Preparation before the surgery
Each of our patients is individually prepared for the surgery. There are several necessary examinations that has to be done to find the treatment method most suitable for you:
- a clinical examination of the face, jaws and the mouth
- specific X-ray images of the face and jaws
- impression taking to create casts from the upper and lower jaws
- photography of the face, profile and teeth
We also need to be informed about you overall health situation: if you are currently treating a disease or you had anything in the past. Possibly a repeated visit is necessary before the final decision is made. An orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances (braces) is necessary before the surgical treatment, which is intended to move the teeth in the right position, and which afterwards would allow surgically moving jaws into the right position. The orthodontic treatment before the surgery can last 18 months or even more. An important visit one to three weeks before the surgery is necessary where final details about the surgery are discussed, impressions of your jaws are taken, and you have to undergo photographing and X-ray examinations. You will be put into hospital 1 day before the surgery.
