Postsurgical period

Patients are usually worried about pain, swelling and numbness of the jaws and lips after the surgery. The amount of swelling depends on the patient and the kind of surgery is made. The oedema can be decreased using steroids that can be infused into the vein with other medication (antibiotics, analgesics). Most of the oedema disappears after 2-3 weeks, but the face can be a little swollen for several months. The patients mostly are worried about the pain after the surgery. Usually analgesics are used to alleviate the pain. The patients often experience that the area around the mouth feels numb after the surgery. Usually this lasts for a few months but sometimes it may happen that the sensibility of the chin and lower lip never restores.
