Postsurgical orthodontics
We usually do an X-ray examination to observe the results before we let our patients go home. You will have to visit the orthodontist frequently after leaving the department so we can monitor the process of the treatment.
During the postsurgical period it is necessary to take impressions of both jaws, x-rays and photos that allows orthodontist to follow the possible changes. Post-surgical orthodontics usually lasts 6-8 months. Then the braces are replaced by retainers which have to be worn for 1-2 years.
In some cases the post-surgical results can recrudesce, which may require extra surgery.
